POLICY INIATION AND ADVOCACY

  1. Follow up and recommend new livestock marketing related policies, plans and strategies designed to provide efficient, adequate and coordinated measures for the development and promotion of Ethiopia's livestock domestic and export trade.
  2. Monitor and evaluate export policies and environment.
  3. Interface and serve as a feedback mechanism between sector operatives, policy makers and implementation agencies.

MARKET RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

  1. Facilitate and coordinate livestock market research and analysis and determine market trends.
  2. Disseminate target market information and develop market entry strategy.
  3. Provide technical advice on export agreements
  4. Advise on sources and types of, and procedures for, accessing export finance schemes in Ethiopia.

TRADE INFORMATION GENERATION AND DISSEMINATION SYSTEM
Produce and disseminate through the computer-based MIS, market information on:

  1. Periodic price information and trend analysis of livestock.
  2. Tariffs for target markets on livestock.
  3. List of importers by target markets.
  4. Import procedures and documentation requirements by target market.
  5. Standards and quality requirement by countries and by product.
  6. Details of duty preferences and exemptions given to Ethiopia exports by target countries.

 
EXPORT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Through ELTA training programs:

  1. Provide hands-on technical advise in production and market linkages.
  2. Train operatives and would be export personnel in export marketing skills.
  3. Train the staff of trade support institutions in export marketing skills.
  4. Provide training in basic elements of foreign trade practices.
  5. Provide training in standards and quality requirements, costing and pricing etc.

TRADE PROMOTION SERVICES

  • Organize buyers- seller meets.
  • Organize in-bound and out-bound trade missions.
  • Organize contact promotion programs.
  • Organize participation of Ethiopia exports in relevant local, regional and international trade fairs and exhibitions.
  • Provide counseling and support to local exporters and foreign buyers interested in exploring or transacting business.
  • Undertake country image-building campaigns.
  • Organize and deliver presentations at local and international export promotion workshops, seminars and conferences.
